Class IV laser therapy for deeper tissue repair and pain relief
A Class IV laser is a high-power therapeutic laser used for photobiomodulation (PBM). Under FDA laser-safety rules, Class IV devices output more than 500 milliwatts. That extra power lets near-infrared light (typically ~800–1064 nm) reach several centimeters into muscle, tendon, ligament, and joint tissue — deeper than lower-power “cold” or Class III lasers.
About class iv laser therapy
Light is absorbed by mitochondria (especially cytochrome c oxidase). That increases ATP production, improves local circulation, and modulates inflammation. Patients usually feel gentle warmth, not pain. Both patient and clinician wear protective eyewear.
A clinician moves a handheld applicator over the treatment area, either on the skin or just above it, for about 5–10 minutes per region. Sessions are often 2–3 times per week as part of a broader plan that may include rehab, manual therapy, or other modalities. Common targets include back and neck pain, arthritis, tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, sports injuries, neuropathy, and post-surgical swelling.
Benefits include temporary pain relief and reduced muscle spasm, lower inflammation, better local blood flow, and support for tissue repair. Evidence is strongest as an add-on for musculoskeletal pain and function, not as a standalone cure. Results vary; many people notice change over a short series of visits rather than after one session.
