Rolling over in bed and feeling the room spin for 30 seconds is frightening. It is also one of the most treatable problems we see, and a common reason people search for vertigo treatment in NJ.
The most common cause
BPPV — benign paroxysmal positional vertigo — happens when crystals in the inner ear move into a canal where they do not belong. Head position changes then trigger short, intense spinning.
How we test
Positional testing lets us watch your eye movements and identify which ear and which canal is involved. That determines the correct repositioning maneuver.
What treatment involves
- Canalith repositioning maneuvers, often effective within one to three visits
- Gaze stabilization exercises if the inner ear is under-responsive
- Balance and walking training to restore confidence
When to seek other care first
Sudden hearing loss, severe headache, double vision, numbness or slurred speech are not typical BPPV and need urgent medical evaluation.
If the room spins when you change position, call us — this is often a short course of care.
